ACT Tutoring

Our Technique:
English
We break down the rules of grammar and rhetoric into the basics needed to succeed on the ACT. The nuances of style and semantics are well and good - and when your child is mastering Shakespeare and Faulkner he or she will learn to appreciate them. But to bring home a high score on the ACT, we teach what the test requires in simple, easy to understands blocks.
Reading
The reading section of the ACT purports to test reading comprehension. It does not. It tests a students ability to understand a question, locate the answer within the test and match it correctly before time runs out. We teach our students how to pace themselves by recognizing what is really being asked and to look for the hidden flags that mark the answers.
Science
The key to scoring well in the science section of the ACT has nothing to do with understanding cell division and photosynthesis and everything to do with a student's ability to read charts and graphs and interpret the trends they express. We teach our students to decipher that information and think laterally to apply it accurately.
Math
As opposed to the other three sections of the test, the math section is some what curriculum based. A developed skill set in algebra through geometry and some Trigonemetry are tested. We teach those skills.
